The Hidden Risk In Hybrid IT: Fragmented Vulnerability Management | SC Media

In a recent SC Media commentary, Srikant Sreenivasan, President of ConnectSecure, laid out why hybrid IT environments are creating security blind spots that traditional vulnerability management programs simply weren't designed to close.

As enterprises span public cloud, private infrastructure, SaaS, and legacy on-prem systems simultaneously, fragmented visibility and ownership leave organizations exposed in ways they may not recognize. Sreenivasan highlights several critical realities shaping hybrid IT security today:

  • Misconfiguration now rivals unpatched vulnerabilities as a top risk — and in cloud environments, a single policy error can unintentionally expose resources across an entire environment.
  • Fragmented ownership across infrastructure, cloud, DevOps, and security teams slows response times and creates gaps attackers actively exploit.
  • Without centralized visibility, security teams can't answer basic questions: what assets exist, which are exposed to the internet, and who is responsible for them.
  • Vulnerability management must evolve from periodic scanning to continuous, context-aware risk management — including automated asset discovery, identity posture monitoring, and prioritization based on real-world exploitability.
